Men's and Women's Tennis Blows by Ferrum
The Pride men's and women's tennis teams earned identical 8-1 sweeps of Ferrum on Wednesday night.
On the men's side, Greensboro opened up a 2-1 lead after doubles play. Crosby Simms and Nicholas Gillespie beat Seth Griffin and Jacob Bivans, 8-3, at number two, while Matthew Troy and Jonathan Deming knocked off Tyler Lee and Demetry Sawyers, 8-2, at three.
The Pride rolled in singles action, sweeping all six individuals matches. Matthew Miller rallied past Chris Miller at one (5-7, 6-3, 7-5), Kevin Koval defeated Griffin at two (6-2, 6-2), Simms blanked Michael Marsh at three (6-0, 6-0), Matthew Moscatello beat Lee at four (6-2, 6-1), Troy blew by Bivans at five (6-1, 6-2), and Deming took down Sawyers at six (6-2, 6-0).
The women, meanwhile, kicked off the match with a 3-0 lead after doubles. The number one squad of Meredith Kelly and Kristen Smith beat Kaitlin Swann and Rebecca Harbeck, 8-4. Danielle Simpson and Brittany Cates added an 8-1 win over Megan Martin and Brittany Martin at number two, while Hillary Cook and Lauren Fisher completed the sweep with an 8-2 victory against Erin Mucha and Norma Valez.
In singles, Kelly defeated Swann at one (6-0, 6-2), Cates outlasted Megan Martin at three (6-3, 6-4), Simpson beat Brittany Martin at four (7-6 (7), 6-1), Cook knocked off Mucha at five (6-1, 6-1) and Fisher blanked Valez at six (8-0).
Both teams will next be in action on April 6 at Shenandoah. Match time is set for 11 a.m.
