Pride Cross Country Turns in Strong Showing Against Averett
The Greensboro men's and women's cross country teams squared off against Averett on Wednesday afternoon at Hagan Stone Park in Greensboro. The Pride turned in a strong showing on both sides, with a victory for the men and a near miss for the women.
The top three men for Greensboro finished the dual meet with nine total places compared to 12 for Averett's top three runners. The Pride women, meanwhile, tallied 12 total places in their top three compared to nine for Averett.
Andre Porter (pictured) had the top place finish of the day with a second place performance. Porter turned in a time on the 4K course of 16:46. Lance Albritton finished third at 18:34 while Clifford Barnett rounded out The Pride's top three in fourth place at 20:31. Winning the men's side was Lynn Welch of Averett with a time of 16:02.
On the women's side, Leah Holle recorded the fastest time for Greensboro of 22:36, which was good for third place. Anne-Marie Green came in fourth at 22:54 and Megan Whitcomb placed fifth in 24:42. Also finishing the course for The Pride was Briona Ramsey in 30:09. Anni Kekkonen of Averett clocked in at 21:00 to take home first place for the women.
"We had a couple of solid runners out sick today on the women's side," said head coach Randy Tuggle. "But overall, I was pleased with the effort and I am excited about what we have on both sides. We are working hard and I look forward to seeing how we do on a bigger stage."
