Members of the 1 Pride Club--Greensboro College's athletic booster
club--provide support and encouragement for the Pride's
intercollegiate NCAA Division III (athletic scholarships are not
permitted) athletics program.
Founded in 1972 by Fred I. Joseph, and Michael B. Fleming, as the
"Hornets Nest," and changed to the Circle of Pride, the 1 Pride
club has sustained a growing and extraordinary athletic program
over many years by providing funding, in kind donations, and
facility improvements for the student-athletes. The 1 Pride Club
moniker was launched in November of 2010.
The College's athletic program has grown from four men's teams in
1966, to 18 men's and women's intercollegiate teams today.
Additionally, Pride athletics supports cheerleading, and a
certified athletic training program. Approximately, one third of
all students enrolled at the college participate on one or more of
the teams. While competing throughout their season, our
student-athletes also give significant time each year to community
outreach. In addition, GC student-athletes display excellence in
the classroom as demonstrated by the large number who qualified for
the USA South Conference Honor Roll Team by earning at least a 3.0
GPA.
Donations to the 1 Pride Club fund a variety of items that are not
covered by normal operating budgets, such as team awards, and
participation awards for our 370 + student-athletes, athletic
trainers and cheerleaders. The 1 Pride Club supports Hall of Fame
expenses, all publications, and mailing expenses for athletic
communications, extraordinary travel expenses for teams that play
in out-of-region venues, and a variety of special needs that come
up throughout the year. The 1 Pride Club also helps organize the
annual Jim Locke Amateur Golf Tournament, a fun-filled day of golf
and camaraderie.
By supporting the 1 Pride Club with your tax deductible
membership, and/or gifts, you join a growing number of individuals
and business partners who recognize the importance and value of
NCAA Division III non-scholarship college student-athletics. Your
donation will directly impact the student -athletes!
