The 2009 Greensboro College women's soccer team posted a record of 10-8-1. The Pride placed third in the USA South and advanced to the conference semifinals.

Second year head coach Ian Spooner guided a young squad of 12 freshmen on a roster of 21. Pride field was good for the team as GC lost only once at home.

The young team started 1-4 before starting a run of 9 victories to just 4 loses and one draw. The Pride defeated Averett University, 2-0, in the quarterfinals before falling to the eventual champion CNU 2-0.

"I was very pleased with how we developed this season with such a young team," said Spooner. "For most of the season we had 6 freshmen starting for us and they settled in very quickly which bodes well for the future. Tessa Hall (Greensboro, N.C./Ragsdale), as our only senior, was instrumental in our success again and will be sorely missed."

Hall ended her Pride career as one of the best in program history. She had five goals and seven assists in 2009. For her four years at GC, Hall dished 30 assists which is a program benchmark. In all, she scored 78 points (24 goals, 30 assists), good enough for fourth all time. Hall was picked to the USA South's first team for the the third straight season.

The 2009 team, however, boasted a balanced attack as three players Hall, Cara Wilcox (Charlotte, NC/Mallard Creek)  and Mary Reinhardt (Winston-Salem, NC/Mount Tabor) all tallied 17 points. Three others Meredith Kelly (Snow Camp, NC/Southern Alamance), Michelle Reger (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) and Melissa Torzewski (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) accounted for 12 points each. Offensively the GC scored 2.28 goals per game during the season.

Defensively The Pride had a stingy 0.98 goals against average spearheaded by the efforts of first team all-conference member Kelli Viana (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream South) and third team all-conference goalkeeper Katie Allegro (Statesville, NC/West Iredell ).

"What was also pleasing about this year was the depth we had throughout the squad with a number of players providing some key performances from the bench," Spooner said. "I feel we have an excellent foundation of players for future seasons and future success."

GC women's soccer honors: Tessa Hall (Greensboro, N.C./Ragsdale), USAS first team;  Kelli Viana (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream South), USAS first team; Cara Wilcox (Charlotte, NC/Mallard Creek), USAS second team; Katie Allegro (Statesville, NC/West Iredell ), USAS third team;   Mary Reinhardt (Winston-Salem, NC/Mount Tabor), USAS third team; Meredith Kelly (Snow Camp, NC/Southern Alamance), USAS third team; Melissa Gallaher (Severna Park, Md/Severna Park), USAS honorable mention; Jessica Kile (Salisbury, MD/Parkside), USAS honorable mention; Jessica Jameson (Columbus, OH/Davidson), USA South All Sportsmanship team.
