Dan Cetrone has been promoted to assistant director of athletics at Greensboro College, announced Pride athletics director Jean Lojko.
Cetrone begins his 12th season of his head coaching career at Greensboro College in the 2009-10 season. He is the all-time winningest lacrosse coach at Greensboro College. The 2009 team finished 10-5, the second best season in program history.
"Dan brings many skills to the role of assistant AD," Lojko said. "His dedication and passion for Greensboro College and our athletic program is evident in his long tenure. I look forward to his ideas and help with taking this Department to a new level of success."
One of his new duties will be to spearhead the Jim Locke Amateur golf tournament. The Locke tournament is the signature event and main fundraiser for the Circle of Pride athletics booster club.
Coach Cetrone is also the NCAA compliance officer and previously served as the athletics recruitment services coordinator at Greensboro College. He will continue to assist all other Pride head coaches with recruiting philosophies and protocols.
In 2008, Cetrone was selected to lead the South team in the prestigious North-South Senior All Star Game. He directed his club to 16-15 come-from-behind victory in Boston, Mass. Cetrone directed the 2006 team to its second straight 8-6 record. The Pride finished the season with wins in 6 of its last 7 contests. Cetrone coached his first All-American, Matt Perry, in 2006. He has mentored two North-South All-Stars and one USILA Scholar All-American at GC.
When he is not on campus, Cetrone helps the growth of the game of lacrosse in the Triad. He is the co-director of the Old North State Indoor Lacrosse League, the Battle in the 'Boro Showcase, UNCG's Spartan Lacrosse Camp and the 3 Star Lacrosse Camp.
Prior to coming to Greensboro College, Cetrone was an assistant coach at Springfield College--his alma mater. He graduated from SC in 1996, contributed to an undefeated regular season and was a Division II National Runner Up in 1995. In 1994, Springfield won a Division II National Championship. His team won the ECAC New England Championship in 1993.
Cetrone, who grew up in Cheshire, CT, lives in Greensboro with his wife, Dora. They have two sons: Frankie and Matthew.
