FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Greensboro College baseball, under the direction of first year Head Coach Matt Aker, has been picked to finish sixth in the upcoming USA South season. The Pride returns 18 letter-winners from last year's 18-23 club.
Shenandoah University was picked to win the USA South Athletic Conference 2010 baseball title in the preseason coaches' poll. The Hornets won the NCAA South Regional and reached the Division III World Series. The Hornets received five of seven first-place votes (35 points) as head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting.
Methodist University finished second in the balloting with 29 points while defending Conference regular season and tournament champion N.C. Wesleyan College placed third in the poll with 25 points and one first place vote. The final first place vote went to Christopher Newport University as the Captains earned a fourth-place finish in the poll with 24 points. Ferrum College, Greensboro College and Averett University, respectfully, rounded out the voting.
The 2010 GC campaign gets underway on Saturday, February 6th as Greensboro hosts Lynchburg College. The USA South Tournament will be played April 15th - 18th in Burlington, N.C. at the Burlington Athletic Stadium.
