FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Greensboro College softball squad has been projected to finish fifth in the upcoming USA South season. First year Head Coach Whitney Gelin returns 4 starters and 11letter-winners from last year's club.
Christopher Newport University was picked to win the USA South Athletic Conference 2010 softball title in the preseason coaches' poll. The Captains captured both the USA South Regular Season and Tournament championships last spring. CNU received nine of ten first-place votes (81 points) as head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting.
Peace College finished second in the balloting as the Pacers received 62 points and the remaining first-place vote. Shenandoah University earned 58 points, good for a third-place finish while Methodist University and Greensboro College rounded out the top-half of the poll with with 50 and 46 points, respectfully.
The 2010 USA South Softball Tournament will once again be played at Springwood Park in Burlington, North Carolina on April 16-18.
Greensboro opens play at the Emory Tournament in Atlanta on Feb. 13.
