FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Greensboro College has been picked to finish second in the USA South this year by the conference coaches. Under the direction of Coach Charlotte Dixon, GC returns 7 starters and 10 letter-winners from last year's 7-8 team.
Christopher Newport University was picked to win the USA South Athletic Conference 2010 lacrosse title in the preseason coaches' poll. Last spring, the Captains captured both the USA South Regular Season and Tournament titles for the third consecutive season.
Christopher Newport received six of eight first-place votes (48 points) as head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting.
GC finished second in the balloting as The Pride received 44 points and the remaining two first-place votes. Methodist University and Shenandoah University rounded out the top-half of the poll with 35 and 30 points, respectfully.
The 2010 season marks the addition of three new women's lacrosse-playing teams into the league. Agnes Scott College and LaGrange College are first-year programs while N.C. Wesleyan College resumes its program after a two-year hiatus. The 2010 USA South Women's Lacrosse Tournament will once again be played at Springwood Park in Burlington, N.C. on April 16-17.
GC opens its season on Feb. 20 when Lees McRae College visits Pride Field.
