Fall Camp Q&A With Football Coach Bill Young
Head Pride football coach took a few minutes out of his busy schedule to assess the first week of fall camp.
-The team reported to fall camp last Thursday, how many guys were on your opening day roster?
We had 108 guys report to camp.
-How is the team looking after the first few practices?
The attitude is awesome. We have been picking up the schemes rather quickly.
-What player(s) have really stood out to you?
Mark Busch and Nick Latoof exemplify what we are working to become as a team. They are both competing for time at the kicking positions but are encouraging and working together to make one another the best they can be.
-Obviously leadership is important on any team, who has stepped up and taken on a leadership role through the first week of camp?
We are still trying to determine who those guys are.
-How do you emphasize leadership and accountability amongst the team?
First, I believe our coaching staff does a wonderful job of modeling for our team. Secondly, you set a standard and follow that consistently. We take a sincere interest in each team member as the year goes along. We meet individually and discuss leadership, accountability and many other topics.
-What does a summer typically consist of for a coaching staff?
The standard model has coaches working camps, preparing for the fall and spending time with family and friends.
-What kind of work did the team do this summer in preparation for fall camp?
They came into camp in better shape so they must have been outside doing something.
Everyone of the returners made their conditioning test.
-What are your goals for the rest of camp?
We have to do the right things with greater consistency.
