Matt Runyans is entering his seventh season on the football
staff, and currently serves as the linebackers coach, defensive
coordinator, and recruiting coordinator.
Runyans’ first year with the football staff was in 2006, serving as an offensive intern while working to complete his degree at Greensboro College. He was hired on the defensive staff the following year, and coached the linebackers from 2007 through the 2009 season. Runyans then worked with the defensive line in 2010 and 2011 before returning to coach the linebackers for the 2012 season.
In his first five seasons, Runyans has coached four players who
were awarded USA South All-Conference recognition, including
two-time, first team All-Conference linebacker, Brick Crowder in
2007 and 2008. In 2009, linebackers Devon Morrison and Mykel
Searcy were awarded All-Conference, as was defensive end, Brian
Green in 2010.
Runyans, a native of Upstate New York, graduated from Greensboro College in 2007 with a Bachelor ofScience Degree in Liberal Studies.
