Position: Head Coach

Bill Young was named Head Football Coach in March 2012. Young started  with the program in 2000 as a Defensive Backs Coach/Special Team Coordinator and in 2001was promoted to Defensive Coordinator.  In 2003, he was named an Assistant Head Coach.

As the Defensive Coordinator Young has helped build a stellar defensive unit which has included 46 All-Conference honorees.  His defenses have finished in the top three in the USA South four times and in the top four six times.  Among his recent highlights include:

-2011: First in the USA South in fumble recoveries with 17
-2010: First in the USA South in pass defense at 114.7 yards per game
-2009: Top three USA South finishes in scoring defense, pass defense, turnovers and redzone defense
-2008:  Top three in the USA South in pass defense and total defense
-Ranked number one nationally in defense for three straight weeks 

Young arrived at Greensboro College  from the University of Virginia (UVA) where he spent two seasons (1998-2000) under the direction of Head Coach, George Welsh. Young helped coach the linebackers in 1998 and moved to the defensive line in 1999.  The Cavaliers also made back-to-back bowl appearances, playing in the Peach Bowl in 1998 and the Micron PC Bowl in 1999.

Prior to coaching at UVA, Young was at Mars Hill College (1996-1998) coaching the wide receivers for one season and the linebackers the following season.

From 1994 -1996, Young coached the tight ends and was the Assistant Strength Coach at The State University of West Georgia. The Braves advanced tothe NCAA Division II Playoffs.

Before Young began his college coaching venture,he coached at three high schools in the state of Florida (DeLand, Sanford-Seminoleand Lake Weir).

Along with Young’s coaching accomplishments, he has been an instructor on the collegiate and secondary levels; and is a published author having written an articlefor the Scholastic Coach Magazine.

Young, a native of DeLand, Flordia, graduated from the University of Central Florida with a BS Degree in Physical Education and earned a Masters Degree of Education from The State University of West Georgia.

Young is married to the former Dawn Van Arsdale. The Young Family resides in Jamestown and has one son, Wil, age 5.
