Men's Soccer Preview: (10/24-10/30)

The Greensboro College men's soccer team concludes its regular season this week with a road game at Methodist on Wednesday and Senior Day against Christopher Newport on Saturday.  The Pride are riding a five-game unbeaten streak and have lost only once in their past eight games.

Greensboro is 3-1 in USA South play and is in second place in the conference.  The lone team ahead of The Pride are the Captains of Christopher Newport.  

After going 1-0-1 last week with a dramatic overtime victory over Averett and a tie against Washington & Lee, two Greensboro players earned USA South weekly honors.  Joe Peluso was named Offensive Player of the Week while Colby Johnson was selected as the Rookie of the Week.

Wednesday, October 26 at Methodist (3:00 p.m.) -- The Pride head to Methodist on Wednesday to take on the Monarchs of Methodist.  Methodist enters the contest with an 8-4-1 record overall and a 2-2 mark in the conference.  The Monarchs have lost three of their past four games with the most recent being a 3-1 decision to North Carolina Wesleyan on the road.

Methodist is averaging 2.30 goals per game while giving up an average of 1.31 per game.  The Monarchs have a shot on goal percentage of .494 compared to .482 for opponents.  Individually, Eirik Nordseth (11 goals, three assists) and Eric McGinnis (10 goals, 5 assists) lead the team with 25 points apiece.  Kyle Beach has started ten games in net, earning seven decisions while posting a record of 4-2-1.  Beach has a save percentage of .700 while allowing 1.55 goals per game.

Methodist won the lone meeting between the two teams last season by a final count of 5-0.  McGinnis tallied a hat trick in the win.

Saturday, October 29 vs. Christopher Newport (3:30 p.m. PRIDE PACK THE PLACE) -- Greensboro will host Christopher Newport on Saturday for Senior Day.  A win by The Pride against Methodist on Wednesday will set-up a winner-take-all battle for the conference crown between The Pride and the Captains.  Christopher Newport is currently 13-0-1 overall and a perfect 5-0 in USA South play.  The Captains will play host to Mary Washington in a non-conference game on Wednesday evening.

Christopher Newport is scoring on a 3.36 clip per game while holding opponents to .57 goals per game.  The Captains have converted .523 of their shots on goal opportunities with opponents finishing .369 of their chances.  Brian Lybert leads the attack with 30 points (10 goals, 10 assists) on the year.  Three other players join Lybert in double figures in total points.  Justin Wolfe has started all 14 games in net with a goals against average of .56 and a save percentage of .800.

Christopher Newport beat Greensboro 3-1 last season.  Patrick Hayes scored the lone goal for The Pride in defeat.
