Men's Wraps up Fall Season at Methodist Invitational
The Pride men's tennis team concluded its fall season over the weekend at the three-day Methodist Invitational. Greensboro matched up against Guilford, Mount Olive, North Carolina Central, Pfeiffer and Piedmont. The tournament was set up with teams of two competing in two singles matches and one doubles match. The team of two that won two out of the three matches advanced in the bracket. The loser fell into the back draw.
The Pride had three doubles squads taking part in the tournament. Matt Moscatello and Matthew Troy teamed up, Kevin Koval (pictured) and Crosby Simms made a pair, while Nicholas Gillespie and Espihoza rounded out the bunch.
After each team suffered a first round defeat, all three pairs advanced to the second round of the back draw. The teams of Koval/Simms and Gillespie/Espihoza, meanwhile, moved to the third round.
Koval nearly led his team to the semi-finals, beating Rapp of Guilford 7-6, 4-6, 10-6. However, Simms came up short in a hard fought singles match and the team was unable to pull out the win in doubles.
Greensboro will next be in action at Guilford on February 12 for its spring opener.
