The Pride women's basketball team will hold its Play 4Kay game on Monday, February 13 against Allen at 6 p.m. In effort to raise awareness for breast cancer, Greensboro players will wear pink shoelaces during the contest. The team will also be selling t-shirts for $15 with all of the proceeds going to the Kay Yow Foundation.
According to the Kay Yow Foundation website, the event, originally the WBCA Pink Zone, was rebranded as Play 4Kay for February 2012. The mission of the initiative, which was brought to life in 2007, will remain intact: a nation of coaches raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund will continue to be the official charity of the initiative.
For head coach Randy Tuggle, the significance of the event has extra meaning, as his wife Susan recently overcame a bout with breast cancer. The story was recently picked up by Fox Channel 8 in Greensboro and is scheduled to air on Monday as a preview for that night's game.
