Richburg Eclipses 1,000 Point Mark as Greensboro Advances to Semi-Finals
Bianca Richburg eclisped the 1,000 point mark midway through the first half and five players reached double digits scoring in a 80-60 victory over Averett. The win is Greensboro's second over Averett in under a week and advances them to Friday's semifinal. Christopher Newport defeated Shenandoah with a late surge to claim the other semi-final spot and will host the match-up, which is set to tip-off at 5:30 p.m. in Newport News, Virginia.
The Pride got to work immediately, jumping out to a 17-7 lead at the 12:43 mark. Greensboro continued to pad the advantage throughout the frame and led by 16 at the break, 39-23. The Cougars rallied in the opening minutes of the second half, rallying to within 44-38 with 14:50 to go in the game.
Chevena Pickard and Andrienne Terrell responded with back-to-back buckets to push the margin back to ten at 48-38. It was all Pride from there, as the lead grew to as many as 23 before settling on the final score of 80-60.
Andrienne Terrell led all scorers with 17, while Danielle Duncan chipped in 16, and Chevana Pickard added 11. Richburg and Jena Cabe added ten a piece. Cabe led the team in rebounding with nine and both Richburg and Duncan grabbed eight. Pickard and Terrell had a game high seven assists.
