Randy Tuggle enters his third year leading Greensboro College
women's basketball team in 2011-12. He was named head coach in May,
2009.
He replaced his cousin, Jason Tuggle, who accepted the Director of
Athletics post at his alma mater: Eden's Morehead High School.
Randy was the lead Pride women's basketball assistant coach under
Jason Tuggle.
In 2010-11, Tuggle and The Pride raced out to a 24 consecutive wins
and finished the season at a program best 28-3. GC advanced
to the USA South Athletic Conference finals and made an appearance
in the NCAA Division III tournament. The Pride climbed
as high as number ten in the nation and concluded the year
with a #15 ranking.
After knocking off Saint Vincent in the first round of the national
tournament, GC beat Juniata in a 57-55 thriller to move on to
the Sweet 16. The Pride were paced in 2010-11 by
All-American Danielle Duncan.
During his tenure as an assistant coach at Greensboro
College,Tuggle helped lead The Pride to three Conference
Regular Season Championships, four Conference Tournament
Championships, and four NCAA Tournament appearances.
The 2008-09 GC women's basketball team completed the best season of
any previous Greensboro College hoops team. The Pride went 27-3 and
produced a .900 winning percentage. Greensboro finished an
unprecedented 18-0 in conference play, and captured the USA South
regular season crown for the fourth time in five seasons. The team
advanced to the NCAA tournament--its first ever as an at-large
selection. GC reached #18 in the national rankings and won a
program-record 21 straight games.
Tuggle arrived at Greensboro College in 2001 after spending three
years as an assistant coach at Northwest Guilford High School, his
alma mater, where he ran cross country in addition to playing
basketball for the Vikings. Prior to his time at Northwest, Randy
was an assistant coach at Western Guilford High School where the
Hornets were Piedmont Triad 3A Conference champions and advanced in
the State Play-offs. He also helped start the NC Lady Gators AAU
program, a team that placed 6th at Nationals
As a longtime native of the Greensboro area, Randy was a four-year
letter winner for the Spartans of UNC-Greensboro. His junior year
he played an integral role with a Spartan squad that qualified for
the NCAA national tournament, and was selected team captain his
senior season.
In addition to basketball, Tuggle has strong connections to the
Greensboro business community. Active in local mortgage and real
estate field since 1980, he most recently was a loan officer at
Suntrust Bank. From 1997-2007, he was self employed with Homestead
Mortgage/Acceptance.
Coach Tuggle is also the head coach for the men's
and women's cross country teams at GC.
Tuggle, who enjoys golf in his spare time, and his wife Susan have
two children: Jimmy and Lauren Childrey. Lauren resides in the Gate
City with her husband, Ryan.
