ROCKY MOUNT, NC—The Greensboro College women's lacrosse team fell in the USA South Conference Tournament semi-finals on Friday afternoon to the Lions of Piedmont 17-13.
Kirstin Norris scored the game's first two goals of the game pulling the Pride out to an early 2-0 lead. Once Greensboro got the quick start, the Lions then scored the game's next four goals taking the lead 4-2. However, Greensboro College was able to bounce right back with six straight goals retaking the lead 8-4. During the six goal run, Ashlynn Parks tallied two times for the Pride along with two goals by Norris. Piedmont added the next goal in the game making the score 8-5, but Alexa Besch gave the Greensboro the four goal lead once again at 9-5. Piedmont then scored the next five goals taking a 10-9 lead into the break.
Greensboro College was able to tie the game at 10-10 following the first draw in the second half of play as Nadya Fedun found the back of the net. Piedmont then broke the tie game with two goals making the score 12-10. Kirstin Norris then brought Greensboro to within one goal at 12-11, but the Lions pulled out to their largest lead of the game at 16-11. Greensboro College would add two more goals in the game, but could not overcome the defect dropping 17-13.
Kirstin Norris led the way for Greensboro with six goals on the day, while Alexa Besch added three goals. Kaliegh Hemstock took the loss in the goal for Greensboro despite stopping 13 shots.
With the loss, Greensboro College falls to 9-7 on the season. The Pride will wrap up their 2014 season on April 19th when Lynchburg comes to Pride Field. The first draw of the game is set for 1:00 PM.
