Women's Soccer Defeats Concord, 3-1

GREENSBORO, N.C.— #Tessa Hall# notched two goals as Greensboro College defeated Concord University (W.Va.), 3-1, at Pride Field on Sunday afternoon in women’s soccer action. The Pride improve their mark to 3-4-1 overall, while the NCAA Division II Mountain Lions fall to 3-6-0.

After a first half in which the score was knotted at 1-1 and each team taking seven shots on goal, GC separated themselves by out shooting their opponents 11-2 in the second half.

The go-ahead goal came in the 70th minute when Hall booted the shot to the left corner of the goal past a diving Sarah Coelho (5 saves) for the 2-1 Pride lead. Senior #Vanessa Pizzi# earned the assist on the play. Just over two minutes later #Mary Sandifer# scored the insurance goal on a chip from the left side, for the 3-1 final.

Concord’s Gemma Northcliffe netted an unassisted goal at the 6:53 mark of the first half, scoring from 35-yards out, to take the early 1-0 lead.

Hall countered with an unassisted goal with just 2:40 remaining in first half action, scoring on a shot from 20-yards out with the goalkeeper off line.

The Pride combined both a solid offensive performance with 18 total shots against the Mountain Lions 9, while leading in corner kicks 5-2. In the process, The Pride recorded the most single-game point output and largest margin of victory this season.

Goalkeeper #Katie Allegro# accounted for five saves to earn the victory.
