Greensboro Outlasts Peace, Beats Roanoke

The Pride volleyball team earned a Saturday sweep at the Greensboro College Invitational, beating Peace 3-2 (9-25, 25-27, 25-20, 25-16, 15-12) and Roanoke 3-1 (25-21, 27-25, 18-25, 25-20).

Against Peace, Greensboro struggled out of the gates, falling behind 2-0 after suffering 25-9 and 27-25 defeats.  The Pride got rolling in set three with a 25-20 win.  The momentum continued into the final two sets where Greensboro rolled to wins of 25-16 and 15-12 to clinch the comeback.

In the victory for Greensboro freshman Liz Widenhouse had a match high 28 kills, while Dana Sandknop passed for 48 assists.

In the second match against Roanoke, The Pride picked up where it left off earlier in the day by taking the first two sets 25-21 and 27-25.  Roanoke stayed alive in the third set with a 25-18 win before Greensboro closed out the match with a 25-20 win.

Widenhouse knocked home a match high 20 kills with Dallas Hasty following with 12.  Sandknop tossed up 33 assists for the match and Danielle Simpson notched a match leading 29 digs. 

The Pride hit a match best .333 in the first set and finished hitting .160 for the match.  Greensboro also tallied 68 digs and 3.5 team blocks against Roanoke.

The win moves The Pride to 4-5 on the season.  Greensboro will return to the hardwood on Wednesday at home against Methodist at 7 p.m.
